Most people don’t have a productivity system, they pretty much leave their days, weeks and months to chance.
They see what problems they have to solve today in order to keep their business afloat.
They are always in a reactive mode, not a proactive mode, so if they are lucky they solve enough problems until the next day, then the next, then the next.
Then there are the people that if they do have a productivity system then they tend to be overly complex. There are binders and folders and flowcharts and spreadsheets. You need to be Einstein to figure them our and Hercules to keep them going.
Productivity systems are only as useful as they are simple. I know this because I have observed and tried dozens over the years. So…
Here is a simple (yet powerful) productivity system that even an idiot can follow.
Here is how it works.
Each week Pick 6 goals to accomplish. (Do this when you plan your week, you are now planning your week right?)
These should be goals that move you towards your Vision or your Ultimate Strategic Position.
Once you have decided on the 6 Goals you are going to work on this week, prioritise them in order of importance.
1.
2.
3.
4.
5.
6.
The day before plan each following day by picking the 6 most important tasks to be done (these should be tasks that help reach your goals and not “busy work” we want to be focussing on things that move us forward not keep us where we are.)
Order those tasks in their order of importance. Work on them in order of importance.
Do whatever it takes each day to get your 6 tasks done. Only when they are done should you focus on “busy work”
Do whatever it takes to get your 6 goals for the week completed. Most if not all of these goals will be completed by your daily tasks.
Let’s do some quick maths…
52 Weeks x 6 Goals = 312 (completed goals, let that sink in).
5 days x 6 tasks x 52 weeks = 1560 (individual worthwhile tasks completed think how much momentum and motivation that will give you).
Imagine what you could achieve with that many completed goals and tasks in a year. Maybe you could conquer the world!
Top Tip… If you get your six tasks done for the day finish early you’ve earned it.
Some days and weeks you won’t get all six done but even if you fall short. You will get so much more done than the average person. Just think how many goals you have reached this year. I bet it is not that many. The reason is as I have mentioned most people focus on the busy work first. If they have time (and they never have time) they focus on a goal or two.
The Rule of 6 x 6 solves this because it makes you focus first on actions that move you forward oftentimes solving in advance those actions that keep you busy.
